Il Divo to perform Official Song “Time of Our Lives”14 February 2006 by FIFAworldcup.comThe Official Song of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ will be "Time of Our Lives" by the vocal group, "Il Divo". Il Divo are currently the biggest selling group in the world and their latest album, "Ancora", is top of the US Billboard charts. The Official Song is in line with the overall theme of the upcoming football event, "A time to make friends™", and about the special feeling that the game brings to people. The Official Song, which was written by Jörgen Elofsson, will be performed live at the opening of the upcoming FIFA World Cup™ on 9 June 2006. In addition, Germany's leading music star, Herbert Grönemeyer, will perform the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ Anthem, "Celebrate the Day", which will be released in German, English and French as well as in a multi-language version. Both songs will be exclusively available on an Official Album, "Voices", which will be launched on 12 May 2006.

"The Official Song has become an integral part of the identity of the FIFA World Cup, which is now not only recognisable by a logo and a mascot but by a very special song as well. I am very pleased that we have such a strong piece of music performed by one of today’s leading groups, and I am convinced that it will become a memorable part of the entertainment fabric of the event," said FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter. "I am also sure that the anthem, which will be produced by Herbert Grönemeyer, will create emotional links among the teams, fans and the 2006 FIFA World Cup. It is important that the official music programme features passion for football and shows how important football is to people all over the world," Blatter added.

The Official Song and Anthem are part of an exclusive licensing agreement between FIFA and Syco/Sony BMG for the production and release of the Official Music Programme of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™. The Official Album, "Voices", will be made up of a compilation of internationally known hit songs from superstars from several countries, many of whom have strong football connections – such as Eros Ramazzotti, Youssou N’dour, Shakira and Julio Iglesias, to name but a few.

FIFA and Sony BMG have enjoyed a successful partnership in the official music programme ever since the 1994 official song. The first major official song was "World Cup Willie", a song about the first official mascot (a lion) of the 1966 FIFA World Cup™ held in England, and ever since, together with the official mascots, the official music programme has become a more and more significant component of the event, providing an excellent opportunity for more than just deep-rooted football fans to identify with the biggest single-sport event. Official songs at recent FIFA World Cup™ competitions have included "Un'estate italiana" (1990) by Edoardo Bennato and Gianna Nannini, "Gloryland" (1994) by Daryl Hall with Sounds of Blackness and "La Copa de la Vida" (1998) by Ricky Martin. In 2002, the official song was "Boom" by Anastacia, while Vangelis’ vocal official anthem featured typical Korean and Japanese sonic elements.

GOLEO VI: Official Mascot of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™ is strong as a lion
GOLEO VI the loveable lion is the Official Mascot of the 2006 FIFA World Cup™. He is alive, talks and thinks. And naturally, he has his own opinions and point of view, as no-one is born just to be a mascot.

GOLEO VI has set himself one overriding task and has made it his sole priority: he wants the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany to be one huge, joyful and unforgettable party, spending his time as the "King of Parties" celebrating, singing and dancing with fans from all over the world for four whole weeks. He's as cool as they come, an attribute he's likely to need as his fame and stardom inexorably increase.

This smartest of lions features on magazine covers, appears in shop windows and on screens, has a long list of appearances in front of him, and is even working hard on an album!.

GOLEO VI's constant companion, Pille the talking football, is always at his side. They are an unequal double-act, as Pille is a right chatterbox who wears his heart on his sleeve. The pals' shared interest in football, and the prospect of what GOLEO VI calls "the biggest party in the world," make them inseperable.
